What is Easter Seals Ontario?
A: Easter Seals Ontario was founded in 1922 with a vision to create a better life for children and youth with physical disabilities. Since then, Easter Seals has been providing financial assistance for essential mobility equipment and communication devices, such as walkers and wheelchairs, to families who require additional help and support in raising a child with a physical disability.
What is the 24 Hour Relay?
A: The 24 Hour Relay will feature energetic teams continuously completing a 1.5 km course for 24 hours – all in support of children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities.
What else is there to do at Relay?
A: A great line-up of entertainment is scheduled, with some old favourites and some new activities too.

- Live entertainment, comedians, Relay Idol/karaoke,
- challenges, contests, games and much more!
Are meals included?
A: It´s important to keep up your strength and energy for this event. You´ll be able fuel up in the food tent, with delicious and nutritious foods. Participants will receive a complimentary pancake breakfast. Lunch and dinner coupons can be purchased by contacting Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay.
When and where is the event?
A: Saturday June 19th – Sunday June 20th, 2010 at Coronation Park, Toronto
What does the Team Captain do?
A: Role of the Team Captain:
- Set a fundraising goal and plan how to achieve it.
- Encourage team find innovative and creative ways to fundraise and show team spirit.
- Come to Team Captains meetings and network with other Captains.
- Lead by example.
- Be committed to the goal.
What is the minimum/maximum number of people allowed on a team?
A: There is no size limit for a team.
What are the expectations for team members?
A: The team is expected to fundraise and raise pledges for Easter Seals kids. If your company has individuals who want to participate in the event by volunteering, they are more than welcome; or perhaps even just stop by to cheer on your team!
Runners Responsibilities:
No one needs to be an athlete. The Relay offers various options for completing the 1.5 km route. The important element in the Relay is to ensure that there is always a team member going around the track.
Team members should be prepared to spend the full 24 hours at Coronation Park, Toronto.
Are there different types of pledges?
A: Yes
- You can be pledged in lump sum payments
- Be pledged per kilometer you run
- Collect online pledges
- All donors who pledge $20.00 or more will receive a tax receipt (complete address must be provided)
Where do I deliver my waivers and pledge money?
A: Hand in your completed and signed pledge envelope and monies to your Team Captain! Team Captains: it is YOUR responsibility to get your teams´ money to the pledge tent. Encourage all team members to pre-collect as much pledge money as possible.
- Do not include online donations on your pledge form, they can be written on the pledge envelope.
- Bring copies of your online fundraising report (print a record of your online pledges off website) to the event, and include it in your pledge envelope.
- Total both cash pledges and online pledges on the outside of the pledge envelope. Copies of the most up to date online pledge totals will be available at the pledge tent.
- Hand in all envelopes to the pledge tent between the hours of 8:00 am Saturday and 12:00 am Sunday.
- Pledge totals will be updated 4 times throughout the 24 hours (2pm, 5pm, 8pm and 12am). These will be posted in the Money Mart tagging area and the food tent until Saturday at 12 midnight.
- Extra pledge forms, pledge envelopes, and answers to any questions will be available at the pledge tent.
- Ensure each team member has made a copy of his/her pledge sheets if they are collecting outstanding pledges after the Relay.
Do the top runners/teams get any awards?
A: Here are some of the award categories that take place at the Relay: Top Individual Online Fundraiser, Top Individual Fundraiser, Top Online Fundraising Team, Best Decorated Tent Site, Best Team T-Shirt, Best Team Cheer, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Team, Most Laps Run, Volleyball Tournament, Slo-pitch Tournament, SPECIAL RECGONITION AWARDS and more!
Top team prizes are awarded based on pledges handed in by 12:00 am Sunday, June 20th.
Is there a wristband policy?
A: For the safety and security of all participants and volunteers, a Wristband Policy will be in effect at the 24 Hour Relay.
Here's how it works:
All teams will be given, in their kits on Saturday morning or at the technical meeting, BLUE and RED wristbands. The BLUE wristbands are to be worn by team members who are over 19 years of age, and the RED wristbands are to be worn by those under the age of 19 AT ALL TIMES!
A BLUE wristband allows access to Beer Tent without ID. However, Police and Security may ask for proof of age, at their discretion.
Everyone must wear the appropriate wristband to gain admittance to the tents. Friends and family staying after 8pm may pick up wristbands through the team captains.
Can we get more wristbands if needed?
A: Yes! DO NOT WORRY -- there are more wristbands available!
- If you know right now that you will require more than 30 wristbands, please email relayhelp@easterseals.org to place your order.
- Team Captains can acquire more wristbands at the event from the pledge tent.
Will there be medical assistance available in case of injury?
A: Yes! The Canadian Ski Patrol System and its members are pleased to provide first aid and medical assistance for the duration of the Relay.
What time do runners have to arrive on the day of the event?
A: All first runners for each team must report to the Money Mart tagging area at 8:00am Saturday to pick up the Relay Money Mart Card (baton).
What do we do with the Relay Money Mart Card?
A: Runners must swipe the card to complete their lap(s) and then hand the card to the next runner. Next runners may only accept the hand off of the card after the Money Mart tagging Area.
Do you have to have someone running at all times?
A: Yes. Each team must have a member continuously walking or running the Relay course during the 24 hour period.
When does our team´s tent order have to be in by?
A: The tent order deadline is Thursday, June 3, 2010.
When can we pick up our running numbers, wristbands, parking information etc.?
A: At the team captain technical meeting Tuesday, June 15, 2010: 6pm-8pm at Easter Seals office at One Concorde Gate, Suite 700, Toronto.

A: Thursday, June 10th, 2010
