70% of the families requesting financial support from Easter Seals reported a total family income of under $60,000. In addition, 49% of families who requested assistance in 2009 self-reported a total annual household income of under $40,000. Of these families, 24% have a total income of under $20,000.

This year we have experienced a significant increase in new client registrations. From January to June, the number of new children registered with Easter Seals has jumped by 26%, in comparison to 2009.

It’s difficult to say why we are seeing this increase. We know that the families are from all across the province and the children range in age from 2 months to 17 years. However, what is apparent is that these families are feeling the need to ask for help. Many families we support rely on a single income and find it difficult to afford all the equipment their child requires.
