Team InsomniAlex´s
How We Can All Be Winners
Since 1922, Easter Seals Ontario, through events such as the 24 Hour Relay, has been assisting families of kids with physical disabilities with the purchase of costly mobility equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, ramps, communication devices and more. Read why this is so important to Team InsomniAlex´s captain, Rebecca Kennedy, and why more people should be participating and fundraising for Easter Seals families.
“Easter Seals has been vital to our family. They have helped us to purchase a power wheelchair for Alex who has severe cerebral palsy. Having a child with special needs means constantly spending extra money on special equipment, clothing, special food and other supports that are only covered in part by government, or insurance, or not at all. It becomes very difficult to make ends meet. That's where Easter Seals Ontario comes in. Not only does Easter Seals help with some of these expenses but they provide accessible camping opportunities for our child that he would never have elsewhere. There are so many camps offered in Ontario and many that have some accessibility but only Easter Seals has been able to offer a real camp experience for our severely physically disabled child. This has been very important for our family.”
“We decided that we wanted to help raise some funds for Easter Seals so other children could have the same great inclusive experience. We decided to form a small team to participate in the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay. It was definitely an adventure! Once the day arrived we set up our family tent and joined the fun. What a great event! How fabulous it was to be at a public park on the lake with hundreds of like-minded people, all there for such a great cause. There were lots of great things going on, including the free massages! The food was excellent and the midnight pizza was a hit with our team. One of our favourite things was to watch the sun rise over the lake in the morning. All in all, a great experience. We're already planning for next year's Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay!”
